How does a Turkish eVisa work?
An eVisa is an electronic visa. This means you will not receive a paper version of your visa via mail. Instead, it is loaded onto an electronic chip in a machine-readable passport, which you present at immigration checkpoints upon arrival in Turkey. The border officials will scan your passport with a device that reads and decodes information from its chip to validate that you are eligible for entry into Turkey under its rules and regulations. You’ll have to pay any applicable fees (which can range from $20-$60) for processing and issuance of an eVisa as well as any other applicable service fees when arriving by air or sea, and you may also be required to show proof of medical insurance.
When can I apply for a Turkish eVisa?
You can apply for a Turkey eVisa between two months and six months prior to travel. If you apply less than two months before traveling, there is a chance that your visa will not be processed in time, and you may not be able to enter Turkey. The processing time for a Turkish eVisa is usually 24-48 hours but during peak season (Easter, summer), it could take slightly longer. We suggest applying for a visa at least four weeks before traveling. That way you should have no problems getting your eVisa in time and being able to enjoy everything Turkey has to offer!
Documents Required For A Turkish E-Visa.
Turkish e-visas are issued in compliance with visa exemption agreements concluded between Turkey and a number of countries. Citizens of these countries can apply for an e-Visa online via one of our official Turkish government-approved websites, regardless of whether or not they require a visa to enter Turkey. Nationals from countries that do not have such visa exemption agreements with Turkey, on the other hand, will need to apply for a regular visa via their nearest Turkish consulate. Do I need to send photos with my visa application form?
The short answer is yes. The consular officer may ask for them or they may not, but it’s always a good idea to attach photos with your visa application form, just in case. Send two photos with each application—in color and taken within six months of filing. Passport-style photos are preferred; if you’re taking a selfie, try not to obscure too much of your face with your hands. There’s no perfect Turkey visa photo size—but 30mm x 45mm (height x width) is an acceptable standard and isn’t too big to include on an 8 1⁄2 x 11-inch sheet of paper when printed at a minimum resolution of 300 dots per inch (dpi).
